Republicans say it must be a political witch hunt because trump had a “clean record” for 77 years and now “all the sudden” there are 91 indictments!
Reality: No, he did NOT remotely have a “clean record” for 77 years. He’s been found guilty – in court – of many crimes in the past – long before he was president:
- In the 1970s he was found guilty of discrimination in his apartments & condos
- In the 1980s he was found guilty of selling apartments to organized crime & Russian oligarchs (illegal tax shelters & money laundering)
- He was found guilty of Fraud with fake “trump University” in the early 2000’s
- He was found guilty of stealing from kids’ cancer charities and can no longer run a charity in New York
- In terms of civil suits, he’s been sued so many times – sometimes successfully & sometimes with undisclosed settlements — for fraud, theft, sexual assault, discrimination, & many other things
- Long before the recent 91 indictments, he’s been credibly accused of tax fraud, insurance fraud, bank fraud, violation of the emoluments clause of the constitution, discrimination, sexual assault, witness tampering, perjury, extortion, bribery, insider trading, campaign finance law violations, conspiracy, money laundering…
The list goes on….
Plus his many bankruptcies and business failures
His record was anything but clean.
